Its been12 years since I got my first photo published in Powder magazine with a Canon A2E and some lens that I got for 100$. The camera was a gift from some nice dentists in Florida that probably have no idea how my life was affected by that gift. Since than the gear list has grown a lot but I still go back to that basic setup. Canon is still what I buy (no more nice dentists), a 24-105 and fisheye are the preferred lenses for most days since I can have a super light pack and can enjoy some turns. I have learned that the best gear doesn't mean your going to get the best photo and the more time you spend outside shooting the more epic shots you will get. Of course I will fill my sun bleached 12 year old Wave custom photo-pack with 50 pounds of gear, water, tripods and more camera gear. There's those days that it's a full crew, full production, its not about getting turns, its all about making something rad to get people stoked. It's a collaboration of athletes, filmer's, photographers and sometimes some friends just to keep the stoke high. Luckily for me I get to work with some of the best and most creative filmers and athletes in the world. That makes my job a lot easier and some days so fun it really doesn't matter that I'm missing a two-foot blower pow day to stand around and take photos. There's a feeling at the end of a day where the whole crew gets it done, nobody is hurt and you made something you hope everybody will like. There's nothing quite like that feeling and it's about as addictive as a good day just shredding with your friends.

Now that I've had a lot of those days in the last 12 years I've had the pleasure of being a senior photographer for Powder with back to back covers, a whole bunch of other published photos and articles, more ad's and catalogues shots. The "Career" has paved the way for traveling and skiing most of the places I fantasized about skiing in when I was young. Alaska being the pinnacle and what I continue to fantasize about-as a photographer and as somebody that just wants to ski something cool.

WHAT WAS THE DECIDING FACTOR IN BECOMING A PART OF THE LP STAFF?

An opportunity to work on a project that thrives off of change. Any chance to work with a bunch of people passionate about snow and mountains-I'm in. Everyone involved either skis or snowboards. There's tons of creativity to feed off and its just exciting to be a part of something new.

WHAT MAKES THE LEVITATION PROJECT DIFFERENT?

Its a brand that tries to take the best qualities of a bunch of different companies and puts them under one roof. Loyalty to athletes, innovative and green products, interesting and quality content, art, photography, design and rider driven branding. Its been a long time in the making and its all about quality than just making money. There's been a huge learning curve for everybody in the company.

HOW IS SHOOTING FOR THE LEVITATION PROJECT DIFFERENT FROM WORKING WITH OTHER BRANDS?

For me its an opportunity to try anything I want and put it out there for people to see. Whether its an idea for a trip, photo or design idea there's outlets that you can try it out on. So for me I don't just submit my photography and see if it gets used. Its OK to break some rules with Levitation, even encouraged.

WHAT IS ONE OF YOUR MOST MEMORABLE TIMES TRAVELING WITH THE LEVITATION PROJECT?

This being my 3rd season I have a pretty good list going now, the whole team is always entertaining to travel and work with, but the first one to come to mind is: Sour Toe, and there was a 8 person crew fired up to film, shoot and get the goods in Mica Creek BC. We didn't get an ounce of sun the whole trip. But everybody was down to work hard and try to make the most of it. Luckily for us it was early season, deep, blower BC pow. Everybody was just as stoked to drop the camera packs and do a few free runs as they were to work hard. A perfect balance in my eyes.

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS AS A PHOTOGRAPHER AND HOW DOES BEING A PART OF THE LP HELP THESE GOALS?

Sick shots, new shots, new friends, epic locations, new idea's. I want my photos to get people stoked on spending time in the mountains. Whether its saving all your money for a heli trip or safely checking out a new backcountry zone with your friends. I need motivation from my friends and other peoples photos to get out there, so I'm hoping my work will just continue the cycle. LP is part of that, everybody is f*!cking stoked. LP helps me travel, shred pow, work with amazing athletes and try out new things. What more could I ask for.

WHERE WERE YOU A YEAR AGO?

Its hard to remember, it all starts to blur. This year last time I was just getting fired up for winter, some early season hiking, working on my photos from August in South America and trying to come up with some ideas for fun stuff to do last winter. Fall time is all about planning for the winter, talking to everybody about trip ideas. Oh yeah, I was fresh off a week of surfing Mex to charge the batteries for winter. You have to have a little time away from the mountains to really appreciate them. No matter how perfect and tropical a location could be I start to miss the alpine.

WHERE ARE YOU KNOW?

I'm at the SLC airport waiting to board the first flight on my way to Ushuia Argentina, where I will than get on a boat, cross the drake passage and look for couloirs and faces to ski and shoot in Antarctica. Its a trip of a lifetime for me and the best way I could possibly imagine starting my winter. I've never seen a penguin or an iceberg!

WHERE WILL YOU BE NEXT YEAR?

Sending it somewhere, somehow. Doesn't matter if its an exotic location or my backyard, I'm just stoked to keep shooting photos and skiing. Drinking too much coffee, talking to Nico about where we should do an early season team photo shoot. Hiking LCC canyon for early season bush skiing. Hopefully doing the same thing I'm doing now. I just feel lucky I get to do something I love with a bunch of rad people.
